Core Training Programs

Explore our core training programs designed to equip Community Disability Services (CDS) professionals with essential skills and knowledge. Below is a brief overview of each program, with links to more detailed information and registration options.


Foundations in Community Disability Studies

The Foundations program offers a comprehensive orientation to the CDS sector, developed in collaboration with the government, post-secondary institutions, and service providers. 


Positive Behaviour Supports (PBS)

This course introduces frontline staff to Positive Behaviour Supports, focusing on strategies to enhance the quality of life for individuals with behaviours of concern. The course emphasizes understanding the communication behind behaviours and how to respond effectively.


Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) - CPI & Mandt

ACDS offers two distinct types of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training, both aimed at preventing and managing crisis situations without the use of physical restraints:

  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI): This virtual training is offered in partnership with the CPI. It focuses on prevention and de-escalation strategies without the use of physical restraints. This training is designed for staff who do not require knowledge of restrictive interventions.
  • Mandt: Developed in collaboration with the Mandt System, this training provides crisis intervention techniques for CDS professionals and caregivers. It focuses on prevention, deceleration strategies, and proactive communication and behavioural approaches to manage potential crises.
