Non-Violent Crisis Intervention

Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) No Holds training is offered exclusively to Alberta Council of Disability Services (ACDS) members through a partnership between the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and ACDS. The training focuses on prevention and de-escalation strategies without the use of physical restraints and is designed for staff who do not require restrictive interventions in their approach. Participants will engage in interactive discussions and scenario-based learning, with training materials provided upon registration confirmation. This training meets Creating Excellence Together (CET) standards.

6 hours (delivered over two half-days)

  • Instructor-led virtual training

Certification

To receive Blue Card Certification, which includes a unique participant code for validation, participants must attend both sessions and successfully complete all required assessments.

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify crisis behaviors: Recognize early signs of escalating behavior to intervene proactively.
  • Apply verbal intervention skills: Develop effective communication strategies to de-escalate situations using calm, assertive language.
  • Utilize a decision-making framework: Assess risk levels in a crisis situation and determine the most appropriate response.
  • Implement a person-centered approach: Focus on the individual's needs while maintaining a respectful and empathetic demeanor during a crisis.
