Alberta's FOIP Act (Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act) was repealed and replaced by two new pieces of legislation: the Access to Information Act (ATIA) and the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA). This splits the old FOIP framework into two distinct laws: one governing access to public records and the other handling personal privacy rules.
These laws govern access to public records and personal information handled by public bodies like government departments, municipalities, school boards, and universities.
