Outcomes Training

Outcomes Training

This mini-course aims to provide learners with an understanding of outcomes, an approach to one’s goals/vision through purposeful and measurable activity. Frontline workers are given material that relates their role with the outcomes of services. A clear recognition of the link between their work and the achievement of outcomes leads to more effective practice in Community Disability Services.

The learning objectives of this material include

  • Defining and identifying quality of life domains and applying all 8 to Individual Support Plans (ISP)
  • Defining ISPs and determining the steps to creating and implementing one
  • Defining mission, vision, value, goals, objectives/outputs, outcomes, and evaluation and determining the difference between each; identifying the importance of outcomes and relevance to front line workers
  • Defining and determining the importance of measuring, evaluating, data collection, and recording
  • Defining the role of government (PDD) in achieving outcomes
  • Defining the role of your organization's policy and procedure around outcomes
  • Defining the role of best practices and accreditation around outcomes
  • Defining the road map to accountabilities

This mini-course is available online and takes approximately three hours to complete. The course includes guides, activities, and a final exam.

Facilitating Meaningful Change with Outcomes

This course is the train-the-trainer equivalent for Outcomes Training. It is designed to provide a language and a set of tools for learners to facilitate the prioritization of outcomes, data-driven decision making, and assessment within their organization. Non-profit organizations face increasing accountability to “show their impact” to governments, donors, and stakeholders. To respond to higher standards, the vision for this course is for service providers to have an in-house trainer with the ability to complete data collection, as related to service provision and the Creating Excellence Together accreditation standards.

Participants will learn practical and intentional approaches to setting and achieving goals. These approaches can and will be applied in both personal and professional contexts so that they become comfortable applying theory to practice. Participants will be able to bring the tools and activities back to their organization to support their staff in working with outcomes.

By completing this course, learners will be able to

  • Describe peer mentorship and the educational value of balancing challenge and support
  • Facilitate a conversation that clarifies the why, how, and what of personal and organizational efforts
  • Facilitate the creation of a vision board and explain its usefulness
  • Describe the components of personal well-being
  • Facilitate the creation of SMART Goals
  • Differentiate between outputs and outcomes
  • Apply a logic model to the achievement of goals
  • Define measurement, assessment, and evaluation and explain how these concepts support the achievement of goals
  • Suggest examples of tools for measuring progress based on the nature of a goal

This course is available online. It includes reflection activities and a final exam.
