The Alberta Council of Disability Services (ACDS) is offering an instructor-led Advanced Skills in Positive Behaviour Supports training. This course builds on foundational knowledge of Introduction to PBS and explores advanced methodologies on behavior support planning.
The course strengthens staff competence in positive behaviour supports, ethical decision-making, behavioral assessment, documentation, behavior support planning, data collection, intervention implementation, and the appropriate use of restrictive procedures. In doing so, it helps service providers improve compliance with CET requirements, enhance service quality, and better protect the rights, dignity, and safety of individuals receiving support. Additionally, organizations with CSN requirements will benefit from this training program.
Registrants from PDD-contracted organizations receive a sector support subsidy of $175 toward registration and will be applied on the registration fees at the time of invoicing (while funds last).
This advanced training is designed for:
Professionals within service providers who lead teams in implementing behavioural support plans
Team members seeking to expand their knowledge and skills in behavioural supports
Qualified persons seeking to operate or participate in behavioural committees

Understand the functions of behaviour and the factors that influence it.
Adopt an ethical framework when supporting individuals in practice.

Understand the different levels of intrusiveness and how to use the least restrictive approaches effectively.

Antecedent Behaviour (Triggers) – Identifying and addressing behaviour triggers
Behaviour & Behaviour of Concern – Distinguishing between general behaviours and those requiring intervention
Behavioural Strategies – Including chaining techniques, task completion, reinforcement, response cost, and environmental modifications
Crisis Intervention & Restrictive Approaches – Strategies for behaviour management
Ethical Conduct & Ethics – Professional standards in behaviour support
Functional & Behaviour Assessment – Tools to assess and predict behaviours of concern
Physical Environment Intervention – Modifying environments to support positive behaviour

Instructor-led trainings allow you to learn directly from an expert in real time, ask questions as they come up, and get immediate clarification on complex topics, helping you build confidence and deepen your understanding.
The training is capped at 15 learners.

Upon successful completion, participants will receive an ACDS Advanced Skills in PBS Certificate of Completion.
