The Alberta Council of Disability Services (ACDS) is offering an instructor-led Advanced Skills in Positive Behaviour Support training. This course builds on foundational knowledge and explores advanced methodologies for behaviour assessment, intervention, and ethical considerations in positive behaviour support.
A-B-C Recording – Understanding antecedents, behaviours, and consequences
Ethical Conduct & Ethics – Professional standards in behaviour support
Antecedent Behaviour (Triggers) – Identifying and addressing behaviour triggers
Anticipated vs. Unanticipated Situations – Managing different behaviour concerns
Behaviour & Behaviour of Concern – Distinguishing between general behaviours and those requiring intervention
Crisis Intervention & Restrictive Approaches – Strategies for behaviour management
Functional & Behaviour Assessment – Tools to assess and predict behaviours of concern
Physical Environment Intervention – Modifying environments to support positive behaviour
Positive Approaches & Behaviour Supports
Setting Events & Social Validity
Behavioural Strategies – Including chaining techniques, task completion, reinforcement, response cost, and environmental modifications

Completion of Positive Behaviour Supports training (Level 1 & 2 or Introduction to PBS format)
OR relevant experience in behavioural supports through work history, education, or prior training.
ACDS Members: $250 + GST per learner
Non-members: $325 + GST per learner
PDD-contracted organizations: May be eligible for a sector support subsidy, applied at invoicing (while funds last).
The training is capped at 15 learners.
Zoom links will be sent 48 hours before the training.
Upon successful completion, participants will receive an ACDS Advanced Skills in PBS Certificate of Completion.
