The Alberta Council of Disability Services (ACDS) is the primary accrediting body for organizations serving individuals with developmental disabilities in Alberta. The Creating Excellence Together (CET) standards are the recognized benchmark for quality and excellence across the Community Disability Services sector. ACDS is offering this comprehensive, facilitator-led training for individuals interested in becoming certified CET Surveyors to support continuous quality improvement throughout the sector.
Registration Fee: $200.00 + GST per learner The fee is mandatory and must be paid in full to participate.
Rebate Structure: Participants become eligible for a $100.00 rebate by fully completing one (1) survey within a 12-month period from the date of training. If the requirement is not met, no rebate will be issued and the full registration fee becomes non-refundable.
This training is designed for:
Professionals currently in a manager-level role (preferably with 5+ years of experience and demonstrated leadership within their organization) seeking to become certified CET Surveyors.
Approved ACDS Surveyors and Team Leaders looking to refresh their foundational survey skills and alignment with current CET standards.
This course equips learners to:
Understand their role in the accreditation survey process and the responsibilities of a CET Surveyor.
Learn how to gather meaningful evidence and confidently assess and rate indicators according to CET standards.
Develop the skills to conduct effective conversations with individuals receiving services, family members, and staff.
Recognize when to probe further, seek clarification, or consult with fellow surveyors to ensure accurate assessments.
Gain practical experience and confidence to participate as a valued member of an accreditation survey team.
Step 1: Online Standards Training (Prerequisite): Introduction to Accreditation & Surveying. Self-directed via the ACDS Moodle platform. Must be completed with the proficiency assessment prior to attending the in-person training. Access is provided upon receipt of registration and payment.
Step 2: In-Person Training (Day 1 & Full Day 2): Two full days of facilitator-led instruction covering CET survey methodology, evidence collection (conversations, observations, file reviews), ethics, and reporting techniques. Attendance on both days is mandatory.
Team Leader Final Reporting Session (Day 2 Afternoon): A specialized, focused session offered on the afternoon of Day 2 for Team Leaders covering post-survey documentation, systemic findings, and leadership responsibilities. (Training concludes at approximately 1:30 PM for new Surveyors and 4:30 PM for Team Leaders).
Applicants must be in a manager-level role, preferably with 5+ years of experience and demonstrated leadership within their organization.
Two references are required.

Participants must bring a working laptop.
Light breakfast and lunch are provided on both days.
Out-of-town participants may submit gas receipts for reimbursement.
