On March 17, 2020, Alberta declared a public health emergency in face of the global COVID-19 pandemic. Like many industries, the Community Disability Services (CDS) sector demonstrated agility by responding rapidly and creatively to unforeseen challenges. Service providers developed new ways to continue supporting individuals while adhering to safety protocols, government increased communication activities and temporarily increased funding flexibility, and everyone intensified collaboration by sharing expertise and leveraging resources to address emerging issues. Were it not for the pressures of the pandemic, some of these actions might never have occurred or would have taken longer and had less impact.
